A Little Bit of Everything
I have yet to take pictures of the apartment. I have still been keeping quite busy just unpacking and putting things away. It takes so much longer to do that now that I have 2 small children. I have to stop every once in a while so I can play blocks or read stories with Mya. She will come up to me and ask if we can play with her blocks. When I tell her that she can play with them, she tells me, "You play with me." I can't resist. Plus, I feel bad that now, she only has me to play with. So I have decided to find some people in the ward who have children Mya's age and try to have play dates. She needs the interaction with other children. She seems to thrive on it, and she makes "friends" so easily. She seems to get along with just about everyone. Definitely a blessing in my book.
Mya has also gotten interested in playing Tag. I think that is due to being around Kelli and Britni so much. They would play it fairly frequently after school. So, the past couple days she has been asking me to play tag with her. Tonight when I put her to bed, I told her that we could play tag tomorrow, so that is now on the agenda. She has also been wanting to play on the slides. She loves parks and slides and swings. So, I am debating whether to take her to an actual park or just to the McDonald's Playland. We will probably end up at McDonald's since it has been kind of chilly lately and I don't want to keep Noah out in it.
Noah is getting to be such a big boy. I love watching Mya interact with him, even if she is a little rough with him. I know that she loves him and just wants to be close to him. She enjoys giving him kisses, tickling him, and rolling on the floor with him. She still tries to pick him up sometimes, but she stops as soon as we say something to her. She is very good at setting his head down gently when she does get him off the floor part way. (A few weeks ago she tried to pick him up and ended up dropping his head onto a very hard floor.)
I love to listen to Noah laugh, especially when he is laughing at his goofy big sister. I think it is so sweet that she can make him laugh with her silly faces. Sometimes, he laughs just like she does, and it is absolutely adorable! I don't remember if I mentioned that he rolled over about a month ago. He only did it once and hasn't done it since, but Mya was the same way. However, I think he rolled over much earlier than she did. He gets pretty close sometimes, but I think he just hasn't had an extreme desire to do it again, yet.
I think he has been teething since he was about 2 months old, but he has yet to have any teeth break through. I have a feeling, though, that he will get a bunch all at once. I'm hoping that he'll take it like a champ. (Fingers crossed...) Mya seemed to do pretty well with hers--nothing too extreme.
I had to go through our baby clothes yesterday and find the 6-9 month clothes for Noah because he has started to grow out of the 3-6 month clothes already, and I realized that I'm going to have to buy a lot more clothes for him than I ever did for Mya. (Actually, I haven't really had to buy clothes for Mya until now. We are finally just about to the end of full wardrobes of clothes for her for the first time since she was born. Crazy! That has been a blessing for us as well.) He needs more pants and pajamas mostly because of the cooler weather. I went to Walmart earlier and didn't really find anything for him, so I think I'm going to try Kid to Kid and Target. I have found some really cute things at Kid to Kid for a pretty decent deal; I definitely think it is the place to shop for your kids on a budget. Yard sales can be good too, although I haven't been to any.
I can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week! We still don't know what we are doing, but I'm excited because Toby has pretty much the whole weekend off; he has to go back to work on Sunday afternoon, but we get Thursday, Friday and Saturday with him. Yay! With his new work schedule, he would have to work Thursday, but since it is a holiday, he has it off. Does anyone else think that weekends or time off work goes by way too fast? Having Toby home from work may disrupt our little routine, but it is so nice to have him around, and the kids really enjoy spending time with him. (Mya is constantly asking, "Where's my daddy?" when he is at work.)
I can attest to the fact that nothing can substitute what a father can give his children--absolutely nothing. Try as I might I cannot do what he does for them; it isn't the same. He plays with them differently than I do, he talks to them differently, he teaches them differently, etc., etc. I think we compliment each other nicely in our methods of teaching and playing and discipline, but we are two people and bring our own personalities into our relationships with our children. I truly believe that both a father and mother are absolutely and unequivocally necessary for the upbringing of intelligent, well-adjusted, competent and involved human beings. I think that all children should have the opportunity to be raised by two loving parents whether they are the people who gave life to them or not is irrelevant. (Okay so that was a little bit of me getting on my soap box. I don't do that very often.)
