Theme--Different Land Types in Texas
Week two of homeschooling was the last week in September. My sister, brother-in-law and their son had just moved down from Montana, and we tried to keep our routine as normal as possible. That week we learned that there are three different land types in Texas: prairie, forest and wetlands. Each day we focused on one of the land types. We learned what kinds of plants grow in each land and what kind of animals live there and what they eat. We learned about the life cycle of butterflies and frogs. We made cereal bird/squirrel feeders and footprint ducks.
For our outing, we went to the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge. They have areas that feature the three different lands. We got see a lot of the animals we talked about, and while we were walking and driving around, issued the kids questions about the things we had talked about in the week. And, they were able to answer most of them correctly. It was very fun and relaxing and refreshing. We're thinking of going again sometime to see a few things we weren't able to see.

Wetlands--There were alligators in the water, but I didn't get any good shots.
Prairie--If you click on the picture, you might actually be able to see the prairie dogs.
