Homeschooling Put on Hold, Sort of
So we have been reading a book called A Thomas Jefferson Education by Oliver DeMille. It is a great resource to have no matter how you choose to school your child. We really like it. It is an approach to education that is considered leadership based and is about teaching by using classics and mentors. We have basically decided this is the style of homeschooling we want to have for our children, so we have been trying to focus more on reading together and discussing what we read and watch. Daddy is an absolutely wonderful and natural mentor. I'm still learning how to be a better mentor. We will still do fun activities and outings, and we will probably still have themes that we focus on. However, we will be trying to revolve some of them around what we are reading and focusing more on what the kids want to learn about. I know we are very new to all of this, so we will definitely have our ups and downs. I'm learning just as much as the children are, I think, so it is a process for all of us. Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know what we're doing.
