Sad News

Grandpa passed away on Sunday at about 3pm. It was very unexpected, but we know he is in a better place. He coded Sunday morning at about 1:30. The doctors and nurses revived him, but he was brain dead. Grandma kept to his wishes and took him off life support after everyone had a chance to say goodbye. I guess I was wrong in my last post about grandpa having more work to do. Maybe, his last bit of work was to help us all realize how short life really is. So, I guess I just wanted to write a little something about Grandpa so that all of you can know a little bit about him and so that our children will know about him if they ever read this.

Grandpa (Ronald Edward Pevsner) was a very passionate man. He had a little bit of a temper, but he was constantly trying to improve every part of himself. He had an intense desire to learn--before going into the hospital he was gorging his mind on American History and the life of John Adams. He loved religion and was continuously trying to learn more. He and Toby often had discussions about religion, along with philosophy and politics. Those were some of their favorite topics to "discuss." Most discussions with Grandpa turned into heated debates, but it seemed as if they brought Toby and Grandpa even closer together.

Grandpa adored Mya; he called her his Pony Girl. He even had this little song that he would sing to her while bouncing her on his knee. When we found out that he was going to be taken off life support, I think most of my sadness was for my children who would not be able to get to know their Opa. He only got to meet Noah once on the day that he came home from the hospital before getting readmitted. He was so sure that Noah was going to be a boy before he was born; I'm glad he was right.

I definitely had my moments with Grandpa where he would get under my skin and I would get frustrated and a little impatient. He was a fiesty old man with a heart of gold. He was often full of praise for those around him for putting up with him. He had his faults--just like we all do--but I truly believe he was working to overcome them. I am so grateful that Toby and I were in tune with the Spirit and followed the prompting to move down here. I'm glad that I was able to get to know Grandpa and learn to love him. I'm grateful that Mya was able to spend time with him, even if she never remembers it--at least we have pictures to show her. I am also grateful that we are able to be here for Grandma. I know that this is the reason that we were sent here by the Lord. He knows all things and He knows exactly what we need. We truly are tools in His hands--we are the means through which he blesses His children. We are all here for each other. We need to remember that we are here to serve Him by serving His children. Grandpa we will miss you, but we know that you are in heaven watching over us. We will see you again. We love you!

Toby had surgery on his shoulder on Monday, August 25. He is doing really well. At this moment, he is currently playing Rock Band with his brother--he's singing. He can't really play any of the instruments; he tried the guitar on his lap, but it didn't work very well. He goes to the doctor for his post-op appointment and starts physical therapy tomorrow. Although it is a sad time to have everyone gathered together, I am glad that we had so many family members here today. It has made everything much easier for me to handle. I think it has been nice for Toby as well.
