New Pics and News
Here are some new pictures of Noah and Mya. Life has been gradually returning to normalcy for us. I have started watching the girls again. I don't think they are enjoying themselves as much as they used to, though. It has been fairly difficult for me to plan any fun activities since having Noah. I totally forgot how much time is needed to care for a new baby. The girls absolutely adore Noah, so that's good. Toby offered to pay the girls an allowance every month if they help me out around the house because keeping up with that has been quite the task lately. They actually do a pretty good job most of the time, but I know they would rather be doing other things. And what kid wouldn't. However, I do have a break this week because the girls decided they wanted to stay with their dad this week. So, hopefully I can get some fun things planned for next week for them.
In other news, Toby's grandpa (the one we're staying with) has been in the hospital for about a month and half to two months now. He originally went in because he got a staph infection in his leg where he had surgery a month or so earlier. They of course gave him an antibiotic (penicillin) for the infection, but he ended up having a terrible allergic reaction to it. It is called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. I won't go into the gory details of it, but you can google it if your interested. I will say that it is a potentially deadly disease. Grandpa has lost over 40 pounds since being in the hospital--partly because he didn't have an appetite for awhile and partly because he couldn't swallow due to the blisters down his throat from the SJS. A few weeks ago, Grandma brought him home because they thought he was well enough, but he was home for about 24 hours before she decided to take him back. He wouldn't eat anything and was getting no more than 500 calories a day drinking fluids. After being at the hospital for another week or so, things started looking up. Grandpa was visiting and eating. He even started listening to his educational CDs and reading and doing some of his normal activities. Then, early last week his doctor told him he had pneumonia. Grandpa didn't think so because he felt fine. Within a day or two, he could barely breath, and on Saturday morning, the doctors put him on a ventilator and sedated him in order to pump oxygen into his lungs and allow his body to get rid of the excess fluid. (He was sedated so that he wouldn't pull the tubes out.) On Sunday (yesterday), his kidneys started to fail and something else is wrong with his stomach, so they moved him to ICU in order to get his vitals and everything stablized. This morning before Grandma left she told me that they called to tell her that they put Grandpa on permanent bedside dialysis for his kidneys. The doctor also told Grandma yesterday that if he had to put out numbers, he would say that Grandpa has a 1/3 chance of not making it through this. She is trying to stay together emotionally and do all the things necessary, but I can tell it has been very taxing on her. I am calling today to put them on the prayer roll at the temple, but all of your prayers would be greatly appreciated through this time of trial for them. Thanks!
