Books
As most of you know, I love books, and I love to read! Since having kids, I haven't had as much time to read. I have been trying to read more often, but it is still difficult to make time. I'm in the middle of reading a few different books-- Increase in Learning by David A. Bednar, In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan, The History of Joseph Smith by His Mother, and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. I am trying to get better at listening to audiobooks since Daddy doesn't read books, he listens to them. I have only listened to two complete books: Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. I have listened to bits and pieces of books with Daddy when we are driving together. I usually get into the books, but I still have a hard time continuing them by myself.
I have found one way that I can read and that is by reading to the kids. At first I didn't think it really counted since I usually read them books that I read when I was younger. But, I really enjoy reading them now and noticing and picking up things that I didn't then. In the past two years, we have read quite a few books including the first two Harry Potter books, all eight Little House books, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, James and the Giant Peach, Ramona the Brave, Ramona the Pest, The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh, and currently Charlotte's Web. There may have been a few others but I can't really remember. Tink loves reading books with me but Skinja and Pateetee don't usually sit still that long. We usually only read a chapter each day. I have a list of books that I want to read with the kiddos. It is one the main points of our homeschooling right now. Books are such a great way to teach our children. I'm just starting to get where we are discussing what we read more often. Tink gets a little sassy once in awhile when I ask her questions because she just wants to listen to the story, but usually, she will answer my inquiries.
